BP

Boards and Paddlers that is! On July 24th, the Surfrider Foundation/Outer Banks Chapter raised over $7,000 benefiting local county schools & educational programs from their 17th annual paddle race. Outer Banks Stand Up Paddle (OBXSUP) was a sponsor and also fielded 6 SUPers for the event. Team OBXSUP newcomer Linsey Cousins finished 1st and Michele Mulloy was 2nd in the women's division. It is an extremely well organized race and fun to see paddlers of all ages on different types of watercraft sharing our beautiful ocean. Photo courtesy of Brent Nultemeier.

Paddle Around America Family visits Duck

The Monroe Family (Kelly, Michael, and Mia) from California visited Duck as part of their stand up paddle trip around the country. They plan to visit 30 states in 31 days and to paddle on at least 37 different bodies of water. We are glad they stopped by, had a great paddle and a duck donut to boot! Please follow the link below for details about their trip.

OBX Record Lesson

We had the pleasure of teaching Bill and Kathleen Ryan's family of 13 to SUP. With the youngest at 8 and the oldest at 71 it clearly shows that this is the sport for all ages. A great time on the water was had by all!

Hands Across the Sand

Today, Michele and I joined hundreds of concerned beach lovers in Nags Head for the national "Hands Across the Sand" event to support clean energy. The event was organized by our local Surfrider Foundation chapter. The weather was perfect and the ocean could not have been more beautiful. For over a week the water has been clear and emerald green. This is in sharp contrast to the devastation of the beaches caused by BP's oil spill in the gulf. Once is enough!

New Paddles

We are pleased to introduce top of the line Kialoa Paddles from Hawaii. New for 2010, Kialoa has just released the "Pipes" paddle with a smaller blade specifically designed for women. In addition to being extremely lightweight, strong and functional, Kialoa paddles have beautiful graphics. To date, women have been using over-sized paddles designed for men. Pipes paddles will make paddling and surfing much more enjoyable for women on the Outer Banks.

The Naval Academy Class of 2010 just graduated and OBXSUP graduate Tim Cousins celebrated by taking a well deserved cruise on the South River in Annapolis. Balance was critical since the dress parade was just minutes from starting...Go Navy, Beat Army!

The ocean and sound are warming up so please join us this season!

Cold Water Stand Up Paddle on the OBX

After a very cold start to the new year, including ice on the sound and 38 degree ocean water, we are back out paddling and looking forward to a great new year!
